The idea behind this image is the smothering and continually expanding nature of Urban Sprawl which universally challenges the world today.

Invasive and brooding these new entities arrive, grabbing hold anywhere they can, establishing a new concrete jungle in place of the trees and creatures they crush.

Concept partially inspired by Hawkwind’s ‘High Rise’ from the 1978 ‘xr5’ album, specifically the line which goes roughly “...human tentacles of gore from the ninety ninth floor…”

Watercolour and sumi-e paints, fineliner, and soft pastel with a hint of CS3.
